Sorry for taking so long to answer this question, life has been crazy but in my eyes its because men are more objective and trusted by women, its also true that we are likely to dress to impress the opposite sex so we need at least that reaffirmation we are doing good how ever I think part of the reason is historical as well - men were traditionally on the technical and design side in fashion houses, working as pattern makers while women sewed on the buttons and dyed the feathers. How ever that’s changing now a days, the fashion world has become global. The male domination is ending. Some years ago they did have the power, it was McQueen and Galliano but now a younger generation of female designers are sweeping all before them - women like Isabel Marant, Phoebe Philo, Stella McCartney, Sarah Burton, along with Miuccia Prada.
